Joywin Lending Investor, Inc. is a Philippine lending company that previously operated the Lemon Loan mobile application.

The company was registered under SEC Registration No. CS201826247 and held Certificate of Authority No. 2859.

On 25 August 2021, the National Privacy Commission ordered the immediate takedown of Lemon Loan and directed Joywin Lending Investor, Inc. to stop processing borrowers’ personal data through the application.

The order followed complaints involving the alleged unauthorised use of personal information, harassment, and public shaming of borrowers during debt collection.

The National Privacy Commission found that the Lemon Loan application had access to an excessive amount of information stored on borrowers’ devices, including:

• phone contacts;
• location data;
• photos and media files;
• email information;
• social media data;
• other personal information stored on the device.

The regulator concluded that the collection and processing of this information did not comply with the principles of transparency, legitimate purpose, and proportionality under the Data Privacy Act.

The order was intended to remain in effect unless formally lifted by the National Privacy Commission.

By 1 September 2021, Google had removed Lemon Loan from Google Play following the regulator’s order.

No reliable evidence that the takedown order was lifted or that Lemon Loan was legally relaunched was found during the latest review. The application should therefore not be presented as an active lending service.

Lemon Loan was taken down by order of the National Privacy Commission. Joywin Lending Investor, Inc. was ordered to stop processing borrowers’ personal information through the application unless the regulator’s decision is officially lifted.
